Nokia has announced the launch of Lumia 925, a new interpretation of its flagship Lumia 920. The Nokia Lumia 925 introduces a metal design alongside an improved PureView camera.
The Lumia 925 comes in a polycarbonate body that is associated with the Lumia range, but includes a metal frame on the outside, that adds to the phone's aesthetic appeal and also doubles up as an antenna. Lumia 925 weighs 139 grams, compared to the heavyweight 920, which is one of the bulkiest devices around at 185 grams.
The other big improvement being touted in the Lumia 925 is the camera, which Nokia claims is better than the one in Lumia 920 , which won a lot of rave reviews, especially for its low-light performance. The Lumia 925 also introduces the new Nokia Smart Camera mode that offers an easy way to capture ten images at once and edit the pictures with options like Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus.
Nokia Smart Camera will be coming as an update to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
As far as the specs on the Nokia Lumia 925 go, it comes with a 4.5-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display with 768x1280 resolution and Gorilla 2 Glass. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor alongside 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It has a 8.7-megapixel PureView rear camera and 1.2-megapixel wide-angle front camera.
Nokia Lumia 925 features a 2,000 mAh battery and runs Windows Phone 8.
"We keep innovating," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices. "We're advancing experiences on the Nokia Lumia portfolio whether that means great new benefits for an existing Lumia owner, or bringing new showcase devices like the Nokia Lumia 925."
Nokia Lumia 925 doesn't ship with bundled wireless charging but a cover can be clipped onto the back of the phone to take advantage of Nokia's wireless charging accessories and ecosystem.
The Nokia Lumia 925 is being introduced in Europe with Vodafone, along with other operator and retail partners. In addition to Europe, the Nokia Lumia 925 will be introduced into the US by T-Mobile and into China by China Mobile and China Unicom. Sales are expected to start in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and China in June, followed by the US and a number of other markets.

Nokia Windows Phone-based phablet

Nokia to launch Windows Phone-based phablet to rival Samsung's Galaxy Note series: Report

Following reports of Microsoft's plans to update Windows Phone 8 to support full-HD displays, new rumours of Nokia working on a large screen smartphone or phablet that's similar in size to Samsung's Galaxy Note series have surfaced online.

According to a report by Financial Times, Nokia intends to launch a number of flagship devices later this year, including a  supersized tablet phone. The publication cited people with knowledge of the company's plan to report the development. They said that the phablet would be similar in size to the Galaxy Note but will have advanced specifications.

Just a week back, a report had indicated that Microsoft will issue an update later this year that will bring support for 1080p resolution to Windows Phone 8. Presently, Windows Phone 8 supports only WVGA, WXGA, and 720p resolutions. The update will reportedly also add support for devices with displays that measure 5-inches and bigger. So the news might turn out to be accurate, however, it's difficult to estimate the exact time frame.

The FT report also confirms that Nokia intends to launch a Lumia  phone that will use its Pureview imaging technology in July. The handset will sport a 40 megapixel camera and a flash.

We had earlier heard about about Nokia developing not one, but two models of Nokia Pureview 808-like devices, running Windows Phone, called Nokia EOS.

Both these smartphones are expected to feature exactly the same specifications apart from the processor. One of these smartphones could reportedly come with a dual-core processor while the other is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. Though Nokia is reportedly working on both quad-core and dual-core version of Nokia EOS, the report mentioned that the company is likely to announce only one of these smartphones.

Nokia with Microsoft

Nokia sees no change in relationship with Microsoft

NOKIA-MICROSOFT_relationship.jpg

Nokia's chief executive said there would be no change in the relationship with its software partner Microsoft, despite the software giant's entry into tablets and partnerships with rival phone makers.Stephen Elop said Nokia retained a "special" relationship with Microsoft, even though others such as HTC have also launched phones with Windows Phone software.
"They're not sitting in the priority meetings that we're sitting in," he said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecoms conference in Barcelona on Wednesday.
Analysts have said Microsoft could one day become a rival to Nokia if it launches its own smartphones, while there is also speculation that the U.S. company could one day acquire the Finnish phone manufacturer.

41-megapixel Nokia 808

41-megapixel Nokia 808 PureView now available for Rs. 25,000

nokia_808_flipkart.jpg

Nokia 808 PureView, the phone best known for its 41-megapixel camera is now available from online retailer Flipkart for Rs. 25,000 only. That's a significant price cut from its launch price of Rs. 33,899. Interestingly, as of filing this report, the official Nokia online store continues to sell it for the earlier list price.

Aside from the camera that has won rave reviews, the Nokia 808 PureView features a 4-inch 640x360 display, a 1.3 GHz single-core processor, 512 MB of RAM and 16GB of on-board memory that is expandable using a microSD card. Unfortunately, the phone runs on the dated Nokia Belle (Symbian OS 10.1) platform. While it was difficult to recommend the Nokia 808 PureView at its earlier price, at Rs. 25,000 it is definitely worth another look, especially for photography enthusiasts.

Nokia's PureView technology will also be seen in the forthcoming Lumia 920. The PureView technique involves taking a full image and oversampling it to the effective resolution you've selected. Oversampling an image means combining adjacent pixels into one. The more pixels you combine, the more accurately the resultant pixel represents real-world information. With PureView, Nokia seems to have perfected this technology, as we found out in our Nokia 808 PureView review.

  • 512MB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • Expandable Storage Capacity of 32 GB
  • 41 MP Primary Camera, 0.3 MP Secondary Camera
